WIU partners with ReUp to help adult learners finish degrees

MACOMB, Illinois. The National Student Clearinghouse Research Center estimates that over 43 million persons in the United States have some college education but have not earned a certification. Through online programs and admissions efforts, Western Illinois University has been assisting those people, sometimes known as “stop-outs,” and is now collaborating with ReUp Education to expand on this effort.

Higher education institutions have been assisting ReUp in engaging, enrolling, and supporting adult learners since 2015. Through the use of unique technology and individualized one-on-one coaching, ReUp’s strategy will assist WIU in reaching students who have previously placed their education on hold.

According to a news statement from Doug Freed, director of Undergraduate Admissions and Enrollment Services, “partnering with ReUp continues our efforts to reach and serve students with some college but no degree.” With both in-person and online alternatives, WIU is a great place for students to finish their degrees.

ReUp will be WIU’s adult learner expert as part of the agreement, providing institution-specific insights and strategic suggestions based on millions of adult learner data points, industry trends, and direct learner input.

Our institution’s stop-outs will be actively contacted by ReUp Success coaches to persuade them to come back and finish their degree or credential. In order to help adult learners succeed in higher education, these coaches offer individualized support through:

  • Offering 1:1 conversations by phone, email or text.
  • Exploring educational and career goals and developing personalized plans.
  • Connecting students with resources and support to take the next step in their return.

Access to WIU’s academic advisors will also help these students succeed by assisting them in planning their next steps, answering any questions they may have, and receiving direction and support.
