Volunteers to “Raise” Heritage Farms Pavilion at Adams County Fairgrounds

Adams County, Illinois. Volunteers will assemble at the Adams County Fairgrounds to assist with erecting the Heritage Farms Pavilion, a new permanent landmark that pays homage to the county’s farming heritage, as a salute to its agricultural heritage.

Community volunteers joined Maas Construction to install the pavilion at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1. Local farmers, volunteers from the Adams County Farm Bureau, Ursa Farmers Co-op, and the Adams County Fair Association joined them. The Adams County Farm Bureau offered lunch at noon after a special recognition ceremony for Legacy Sponsors and volunteer staff at 11 a.m.

According to a press release from Bicentennial commissioner Mark Peter, this endeavor will pay tribute to Adams County’s long-standing barn-raising custom. Farm neighbors came together throughout the 18th and early 19th centuries to complete the challenging process of erecting a barn in a single day. We intend to complete this job with the same attitude.

One of the centerpieces of the Adams County Bicentennial celebration, the pavilion is intended to be a permanent memorial to the decades of farming families who influenced the history and economy of the area.
