Missouri’s Hannibal. Craig Fleece of Dallas City, Illinois, will have his artwork on display in the Hannibal Arts Council’s next limited-engagement exhibition. The Hannibal Arts Council will host the exhibit from Friday, August 29 to Friday, September 12. The address of the Hannibal Arts Council is 105 S. Main.
On Friday, August 29, from 6 to 9 p.m., there will be a Friday night preview. At 7:30 p.m., there will be Countdown to Blacklight and an artist discussion.
Viewers are invited to explore the landscapes and travel narratives that were collected during Fleece’s wanderings through the exhibition, Vanscapes: 2nd Journey. Everyone who attends will have a unique viewing experience as the Hannibal Arts Council gallery transforms into a doorway for a shared trip.
The rich reds, oranges, and earthy tones of the Southwestern landscapes serve as Fleece’s inspiration. His depictions of these desert vistas have a psychedelic and surreal appearance, complemented by a constant feeling of whimsy and humor that characterizes his artistic language.
Fleece transforms the restorative qualities of untamed locations into colorful depictions on canvas by drawing extensively from his outdoor encounters and nature experiences. His artistic process starts with the actual landscape, where he uses plein air oil painting and drawing to capture the moment of each spot.
With financial assistance from the Missouri Arts Council, Commerce Bank is the exhibit’s sponsor.
Through September 12, the HAC gallery is open Monday through Friday from noon to five o’clock and on Saturdays from eleven a.m. to two p.m. (during exhibits only).
