At 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2025, Valerie Joan Anders, 77, of Quincy, passed away at Blessing Hospital.

The daughter of John and Vera Presland Hudson, Valerie was born in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, England, on May 15, 1948. On June 12, 1971, she wed Ronald James Anders in Biggleswade, England. He lives.

Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, England, is where Valerie was raised. While Ronald Anders was serving with the US Air Force in England, she met the man of her dreams. The couple moved back to Quincy shortly after getting married in order to start a new life together. Raising her family was Valerie’s top priority as a wife and mother. She cherished every second of it. Ron and Valerie currently attend Hope Lutheran Church, having formerly attended Luther Memorial Church. She was always involved in her church; she had previously served on the Alter Guild and assisted with Bible School and Sunday School. She was always ready to lend a hand when needed. She loved working as a volunteer at Blessing Hospital as well. Valerie loved knitting and tending to her flower garden in her free time.

James (Erica) Anders and Tracey (Grant) Vandenberg, both of Quincy; four grandchildren, Peyton and Carlie Anders, Castor and Aislynn Vandenberg; a sister, Janet (Anthony) Sheldon of Wellingborough, England; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins are among the survivors, in addition to her spouse.

Valerie’s parents passed away before her.

Pastor Jim Dennis will preside over the memorial service on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Greenmount Cemetery will be the site of the funeral. Visitation will not be permitted.
