PALMYRA, MO. The first Black & Green Gala to Benefit Veterans is a formal charity event scheduled for Saturday, November 1 at 5 p.m., according to Tek Forward, a local non-profit organization that focuses on accessible technical education and community participation.
“My two stepbrothers, my brother-in-law, and my father-in-law have been surrounded by veterans all my life, and I have heard all the stories, good and bad,” said Luis Barnes, executive director of Tek Forward and co-chair of the Black and Green Gala committee, in a press release. I am now able to take action, and it is a first step to raise what we can to support those organizations that assist veterans, their children, and their families.
Being co-chair of the Black & Green Veterans Gala on November 1st is a great honor for me. More than just a celebration, this event honors our soldiers’ exceptional bravery, unshakable dedication, and lasting legacy. These are the men and women who have proudly donned the uniform, bravely responded to the call of duty, and, long after their service, continue to inspire us with their sacrifice and tenacity. Maygan Huff, co-chair and agent of American Family Insurance in New London, added, “I’m honored to contribute to the creation of an evening that embodies the appreciation, dignity, and solidarity they so richly deserve.”
Monica Puls of Sturhahns Jewelers, Erin Niekamp of the Edwards Group, and Adam Duesterhaus of Chaddock make up the remaining committee members.
Veterans are admitted free of charge, and the cost to attend the event is $75.
We want veterans to know that this event is being held in recognition of their bravery and selflessness. It just doesn’t seem right to charge them anything, Barnes said.
Beau & Company in Palmyra will host the Black & Green Gala, which will raise funds for charities that support soldiers and their families as part of their mission. The 2025 organizations chosen to receive the funding are The Tri-State Warrior Outreach (Quincy, Ill.), Chaddock (Quincy, Ill.), and VFW Post 11041 (Palmyra).
