in 8:10 p.m. on Friday, August 8, 2025, Ronald C. Becker, 87, of Quincy, passed away in the Barry Community Care Center in Barry, Illinois.
Elmer Ludwig and Marcella Mae Mester Becker were the parents of Ron, who was born in Quincy, Illinois, on September 28, 1937. He wed Alice G. Martin at Plainville Methodist Church on August 17, 1963. His devoted wife of sixty-two years lives on.
Ron graduated from Quincy High School in 1955. For thirteen and a half years, he had worked in the office and on trade at Scudders Gale Grocer Company. After that, he spent 28 1/2 years working in the Mintrate Production Department and the Sales Field Force at Moorman Manufacturing Company. In 1995, Ron left the Micro-mix Drug and Quality Control Department early.
In his free time, Ron liked to tend to his and Alice’s flower and vegetable gardens, trim shrubs for friends and family, and clean up the yard. Additionally, Ron and Alice enjoyed spending time together at Lake of the Ozarks or on the river. They stayed at Marco Island, Florida for the winters for several years. They also liked to travel and go camping to see their kids and grandkids’ events. They visited Germany in 2003.
Ron was a member of the Illinois National Guard for six years. In order to replace a company dispatched to Berlin, his battalion, which was part of the 182th Ordinance Field Supply Company, was sent to Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. Ron received the title of Ft. Leonard Wood Post’s soldier of the month for this year.
Ron participated actively at Luther Memorial Church. He has been the Sunday School Superintendent and an usher for many years. In addition, he served on the Finance Team, the Food Pantry, and the Property Committee. Ron belonged to the Mississippi Valley Hunters and Fishermen, UCT, North Side Boat Club, South Side Boat Club, Loyal Order of the Moose, and Elks Lodge 100.
Three children, in addition to his spouse, are survivors: Rhonda (Butch) Brinkman of Payson, IL; Lisa (Jim) Newman of Nashville, TN; Christopher Becker of Portland, OR; seven grandchildren: Noah (Lacey) Brinkman of Ballwin, MO; Samuel Brinkman of Payson, IL; Lauren Brinkman of Payson, IL; Natalie Becker of Portland, OR; and Nicolette Becker of Portland, OR; a great-grandson, Beckett Ronnie Brinkman of Ballwin, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ron’s parents and four sisters, Evelyn Schmitt, Dolores Dasch, Norma Stone, and Genevieve Becker, died before him when he was still a baby.
Hansen-Spear Funeral Home will be open for visits on Sunday, August 17, 2025, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Service: Monday, August 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Brett Gosteli.
Burial: American Legion Post 37 and the US Army Funeral Honors Detail gave military honors at Quincy Memorial Park.
