Rodney Roy Uppinghouse, 72, of Quincy, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2025, at his home in Quincy, IL.
Rodney was born September 14, 1952, in Quincy, IL to Roy Otis and Billie Mae (Platt) Uppinghouse. He was married to Kathleen Ann Smith on September 6, 2009, at Whispering Oaks Campground. She survives.
Other survivors include his three children, Yvonne Robison (William) of Quincy, Phillip Nichols of Burton, IL, and Nichole Uppinghouse of Quincy; his mother, Billie Uppinghouse; six grandchildren, Abigail Robison, Alyssa Robison (Kaden Grim), Audrey Robison, Alaina Uppinghouse, Wyatt Curry, and Abram Curry; two brothers, Tim Uppinghouse (Nancy) and Jeff Uppinghouse; one sister, Peggy Uppinghouse (Richard Epperson); and many loving uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Rodney was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Cindy Bock.
For 40 years, Rodney dedicated his professional life to Traders TNT as a parts manager, a role he performed with passion and pride. His work was not just a job; it was a significant part of who he was, and his commitment to excellence left a lasting impact on all who worked alongside him.
Rodney’s interests were as varied as they were engaging. He was an avid racing enthusiast, a familiar face at Quincy Raceways, where he raced stock cars and b-mods. His mechanical skills were unmatched, whether he was working on four-wheelers, dirt bikes, or mowers. Rodney also devoted many years to the Payson Boy Scouts of America, serving as a scoutmaster, boyscout leader, and pack leader, instilling values and skills in the youth of his community.
An outdoorsman at heart, Rodney found solace and pride in tending to his yard and mowing. He cherished his time at the Ozarks and camping at Whispering Oaks, where his family maintained a permanent camper. A master at the blackstone grill, Rodney’s pancake breakfasts, complete with fun shapes, were a hit with his grandchildren and a beloved family tradition.
At home, Rodney could often be found in his garage, his happy place, surrounded by the tools of his many hobbies. His love for Westerns, Dale Earnhardt, and country music were well known. But above all, his main love was for his family and grandchildren, and he had immense joy in being surrounded by friends and loved ones. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the love he shared will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew him.
