Robert E. Sronce – Hansen-Spear

On Saturday, June 28, 2025, Quincy resident Robert E. Sronce, age 93, passed away at home.

The son of Robert Lyle and Bonnie Roseann Scarber Sronce, Robert was born in DuQoin, Illinois, on November 18, 1931.

Before starting the House of Robert Salon on Maine Street, which would later be moved to 14th and State, Robert worked for four years at the Courtel Beauty Salon after relocating to Quincy in the 1950s. For five years, he ran The House of Robert. For the next 20 years, Robert worked at the Key Beauty Salon. Robert established Mr. Robert’s 8th Street Beauty Salon in 1990.

For eleven years, Robert was a hairdressing instructor at Gem City College and the Quincy Beauty Academy.

Robert belonged to the National Cosmetology Association, the Quincy Hairdressers Association, where he served as a board member, and First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

His sister, Judy (Don) Lovel of Herrin, IL; his adopted son, John (Courtney Hodge) Riney of Bacliff, TX; his grandson, Evan Robert Riney; his partner of thirty years, Robert E. Bobby Riney Jr. of Quincy; his niece, Sandy (Ed) Hoglan of Plainview, TX, whom he raised; and other nieces and nephews are among the survivors.

Robert’s parents, two brothers, Merrill and George Philip Scronce, and two sisters, Rita Slaughter and Jane Robinson, passed away before him.

Hansen-Spear Funeral Home will be open for visits on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Service: Thursday, July 10, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Stacey Nicholas.

Interment: Quincy, Illinois’s Greenmount Cemetery
