QUINCY — The Quincy Police Department received its recognition for completing its the successful completion of the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program, or ILEAP, certification.
Macomb Police Chief Jeff Hamer presented the certificate to Quincy Police chief Adam Yates and members of his leadership team at Monday’s Quincy City Council meeting.
ILEAP is the process where law enforcement departments are evaluated for their policies and procedures The compliance of achieving these standards is reviewed and verified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Council. Hamer also serves as the council’s director.
Hamer said the extensive training and work involved to prepare for accreditation, includes attending a 16-hour training session and reviewing files, policies, and procedures. It also required proving compliance with state and federal laws, court decisions, and Illinois law enforcement best practices.
Quincy Police Chief Adam Yates said QPD Office Administrator Michele Flaiz and Sergeant Erica Scott did a lot of the heavy lifting during the two-year accreditation process to get the department to Tier Two status and he presented them with letters of commendation at the meeting.
There are 67, or about five percent, of law enforcement agencies across the state that have achieved Tier Two status.
