Quincy In order to encourage communities to have critical discussions about medical decision making, Quincy Medical Group (QMG) will participate in a national initiative and organize a community game event on Wednesday, July 9 at 5:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 739 N. Eighth.
Information on how to get ready for future decisions on important and significant health issues will be presented at the event, which will include the conversation game Hello.
“This game will help you prepare for situations you may not have considered before,” stated Shari Robesky, a social worker and behavioral health therapist at QMG, in a news release. It greatly enhances the enjoyment and significance of discussions like this.
Although it might be challenging, the subject of advance care planning must be discussed. People will come together for a fun conversation on living well and receiving high-quality end-of-life care at the community game day event.
Participants will be given information on medical decision-making and given the option to complete an advance directive. The first step toward advancing care planning is this event. Each participant will go away ready to carry on the discussion and take crucial actions to guarantee that their wishes for end-of-life care are understood.
Through her research program, Project Talk, Lauren Jodi Van Scoy of Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is leading a big, NIH-funded research study that includes the Hello events. The project is a collaboration between the University of Kentucky and the Hospice Foundation of America. Gift certificates worth up to $90 can be awarded to participants who choose to participate.
Improving access to high-quality care later in life requires understanding how to best include communities in initiatives like these. This event will make it easier and more frequent for members of the local community to hold these kinds of conversations.
Everyone can benefit from this program, Robesky said, regardless of whether they are just beginning to consider advance care planning or would like additional information.
