Quincy man gets six years on firearms and cannabis manufacturing/distributing

Quincy On accusations of drug trafficking and guns, a Quincy man was given a six-year sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections on Monday.

Jeffrey T. Bennett, 47, was given a six-year term by Circuit Judge Holly Henze for making and possessing cannabis with the intent to supply more than 500 grams but less than 2,000 grams, as well as for possessing a handgun by a felon.

Drug charges are classified as Class 2 felonies, whereas gun charges are classified as Class 3 felonies. Bennett will be credited for 328 days of time served, and the sentences will run consecutively.

In August, Quincy Police Department detectives arrested Bennett on an Adams County warrant for domestic abuse and aggravated battery of a pregnant person. The charges were dropped.

Members of the West Central Illinois Task Force and deputies from the Adams County Sheriff’s Department carried out a search warrant in the 3400 block of State.

Other illicit things were discovered by officers when they were carrying out the search warrant. Officers from the QPD requested for and were granted a second search warrant for the house. Officers found a firearm, numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia, a significant quantity of cannabis, and a significant amount of US money during a search of the home.
