Quincy Rehearsals for this year’s Quincy Community Theatre Playwriting Festival begin at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 28 on the QCT main stage, with five playwrights, four local directors, and seventeen community members bringing fresh stories to life.

This one-night event, which is being presented in collaboration with the Midsummer Arts Faire, promises to be an evening filled with humorous, thought-provoking, and enjoyable short plays that are directed and performed by local talent.

According to a news release from QCT’s education director, Brendan Shea, “We are fortunate to have so many talented performers in our community as well as great writers and directors.” Through our classes and modest shows, QCT has long been an advocate for new playwriting. The next stage in establishing a venue for up-and-coming playwrights, both domestically and internationally, is the QCT Playwriting Festival.

The lineup for the short play is:

  • Locker Room Talk, written by John Holleman and directed by Nicole Dieker Finley. Featuring Laurel MacKenzie as Timbo, Gretchen Dudley Wolfmeyer as Statler and Lisa Rabe as narration
  • The Summit, written by Dan Conboy and directed by Harrison Clarke. Featuring Casey Mercurio as Benny, Mike Robinson as Harry, Randy Wolfmeyer as L. Roi, Kristen Houston as A Buddha and Susan Disselhorst as narration.
  • Valley Lane, written by Alec Eaton and directed by Brendan Shea. Featuring Christina Vahlkamp as Amanda, Jason Washington as Thomas, Simon Bruening as Will and Grace Meyer as narration.
  • Dispatches From a Mars Widow, written by Nicole Dieker Finley and directed by Brendan Shea. Featuring Crystal Perry as the widow.
  • The Bench, written by Romney Humphrey and directed by Elizabeth Mannhardt. Featuring Madison Kastner as Carol, Mason Ellison as Ted, Kristie Bradshaw as Park Worker and Alta King as narration.

A Pay What You Can event, the QCT Playwriting Festival aims to make theater accessible to everyone. Tickets are necessary to guarantee your place, but there is no set cost. The money raised will be used to support Quincy Community Theatre’s ability to host similar events in Quincy and the neighboring areas.
