Quincy Mayor Linda Moore of Quincy decided she needed to take action after learning that roughly thirty Quincy Public Schools kids owed money for lunches.
Mayor Moore informed MRN’s Ashley Conrad to wrap up this week’s Minutes with the Mayor podcast, “I learned that there were roughly 30 to 35 students in public schools who had lunch debt.” Therefore, they decided to forgo a heated meal in favor of peanut butter and jelly.
In the lunchroom, Mayor Moore could only imagine how those youngsters could feel to be singled out as different from their peers.
The mayor stated that in certain instances, the amount was only 10 or 25 cents.
They decided to pursue a collection and settle this debt, which was approximately $1,700, while speaking with another employee.
According to Moore, they thus solicited city workers to see who would like to contribute. They raised half the money in three hours.
She agreed to make up the difference with the other staff member she spoke with first.
She was happy to inform that they had managed to secure all of the money by the end of the day. In order for these thirty children to begin school on a positive note, with optimism in their eyes, and with an emphasis on learning, we will be sending a check to the public schools.
According to Moore, everyone helped out, including municipal council members and employees.
Seeing so many people rise forward and say, “I want to help our children,” was extremely amazing.
Let’s talk about comfort food.
