Quincy An SUV struck a man on his bike Tuesday, resulting in his airlift to Springfield.
The Quincy Police Department, Quincy Fire Department, and Adams County EMS responded to a traffic collision near the intersection of 18th and Chestnut Street at approximately 4:00 pm on Tuesday. According to the preliminary investigation, Elizabeth Shepherd, 53, of Quincy, was operating a Mercury Mountaineer east on Chestnut when it failed to stop at the stop sign at the junction of Chestnut and N.18th.
Shepherd’s car consequently struck a scooter that had stopped at the stop sign.
The moped’s male driver was taken to Blessing Hospital by ambulance after suffering severe injuries. Later, for additional care, he was transported to a Springfield hospital. Shepherd’s failure to obey a stop sign and expired registration resulted in his arrest, citation, and release.
The Quincy Police Department is still investigating the incident.
