Quincy At around 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, the Quincy Fire Department was called to a structure fire at 617 College.
Due to the high temperatures and heat index, Engine #5 was asked right away, while Engine Companies #2, #4, #6, and Incident Command were originally contacted. When responders arrived, they noticed that windows on the first and second floors were emitting a lot of smoke and flames. Concerns about exposure were also raised by the close proximity of the nearby residences.
The fact that the property was unoccupied was promptly confirmed by the crews. The first-floor fire was swiftly extinguished from the exterior after an attack line was set up. The fire was put out throughout the house after crews pushed open the doors and entered. A third attack line was set up but not yet opened, and a second line was sent to the first floor.
In order to remove equipment and put out hot spots, engine companies stayed on the scene until approximately 6:15 p.m.
The structure was severely damaged by fire and smoke, and a nearby structure sustained minor damage. At the time of the fire, the building had no utilities. Investigations about the fire are ongoing.
The Quincy Police Department, Adams County Ambulance, Ameren, and the QFD Rehab Team all contributed to the 13 QFD personnel who arrived on the scene.
