GOLDEN, IL Finding a place to work where you spend the majority of your adult life is uncommon these days. That’s exactly what Cindy Cassens, a certified medical assistant, can say.
Cassens, who will spend her final day on August 1, was present when the East Adams County Rural Health Clinic first opened in 1991.
In a press statement announcing her retirement, Cassens stated, “I have enjoyed my time at the clinic and will miss the patients most.” I am honored.
Dr. Debra Phillips, Southern Illinois University Medicine-Center for Family Medicine, and St. Mary and Blessing Hospitals collaborated to launch the clinic.
Cassens spent ten years working for the late obstetrician-gynecologist Michael Shih, MD, prior to the clinic’s establishment.
Casses attended Robert Morris College in Carthage to obtain her medical assistant training after graduating from Unity High School.
She has been married to her husband, Eric, for forty-four years, and they reside in Camp Point.
She will undoubtedly relish spending more time with her son Justin and his wife Kristen Cassens, as well as their daughter Erica and her husband Nate Hilgenbrink. Jackson and Brooklyn Cassens, as well as grandchildren Ian and Ava Hilgenbrinck.
Cassens has not withdrawn from service because of his retirement. She is currently the president of the Golden Good Shepherd Nursing Home Board and has served as an emergency medical technician.
