CARTHAGE, Illinois. In accordance with the findings of a recent on-site inspection conducted as part of the College of American Pathologists’ (CAP) Accreditation Programs, Memorial Hospital Laboratory has been granted accreditation by the CAP Accreditation Committee. CAP accreditation, which is known for its strong and exacting requirements, improves quality and reduces risk, which is a significant way that labs may help patients get better results.

Dr. Katherine Kasper, the facility’s director, was informed of this international recognition and commended for the high caliber of services rendered. Memorial Hospital Laboratory is one of over 8,000 facilities across the globe that have earned CAP accreditation.

This accreditation reaffirms our dedication to the highest standards in laboratory medicine, Dr. Kasper stated in a press statement.

“We are proud of our lab team and their commitment to safe, high-quality care,” stated Ada Bair, CEO of Memorial Hospital. This accomplishment demonstrates our commitment to consistently improving patient care.

Inspectors review the laboratory’s records and quality control protocols as part of the CAP accreditation process. Additionally, CAP inspectors look at the qualifications of laboratory personnel, buildings, equipment, safety records and programs, and general management. In addition to reflecting the most recent best practices, these reviews aid in activity verification.

With more than 23,000 laboratory members, CAP collaborates with labs across the globe to improve laboratory medicine by offering best-in-class solutions that promote operational excellence, boost diagnostic confidence, and guarantee the highest standards of patient care.

By promoting and encouraging excellence in the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine globally, CAP serves patients, pathologists, and the general public. It is the largest organization of board-certified pathologists in the world and a top supplier of laboratory accreditation and proficiency testing programs. To learn more, go to CAP.org.
