‘Make a noise so police can find you’: Victim’s 911 call led cops rapist, prosecutors say

A 35-year-old man has been placed under arrest pending trial after allegedly luring a minor from a South Side gas station and raping her in his garage as she screamed for assistance during a live 911 call.

According to the prosecution, the 19-year-old victim was promised a ride home by Jarad DeYoung, who met her late on July 24 at a gas station in the 9400 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue.

The teenager said she wanted to leave after changing her mind and getting into a car with DeYoung, a female driver, and another male passenger. Assistant State’s Attorney Christine Senger claimed that DeYoung kept her door shut to prevent her from leaving.

Senger claimed that DeYoung took her into his yard, shut the gate, dragged her into his garage, and sexually attacked her once they got to his house in the 9400 block of South Maryland Avenue.

During the assault, the woman dialed 911, according to Senger.

Senger claims that she can be heard sobbing and yelling for the defendant to stop. She claimed that in order for responding officers to locate her, a dispatcher advised the woman to make a sound.

According to the 911 call tape, DeYoung allegedly told the woman, “You’re going to have my baby,” as the victim pleaded with him to stop.

Within minutes, police discovered the teenager strolling alongside DeYoung. According to Senger, she approached the authorities, pointed to DeYoung, and claimed he had sexually assaulted her. The police took him into custody right away.

Police obtained gas station footage that showed the adolescent meeting DeYoung, and the victim was sent to Trinity Hospital for a sexual assault examination.

Senger also noted that DeYoung had previous convictions for narcotics, residential burglary, and armed robbery, and that he was already on pretrial release for another case.

While the case is still pending, defense lawyer Jaclyn McAllister asked Judge James Costell to place DeYoung on electronic monitoring rather than in jail. According to her, he works in a factory, has a single child, and lives with his mother.

Costello refused to be convinced.

Costello stated from the bench that this defendant is a real threat. At a petrol station, he approached a random 19-year-old girl, dragged her to his garage, and then sexually assaulted her.

He mandated DeYoung’s incarceration until trial.
