On Tuesday, July 29, 2025, Quincy resident Lloyd William Peters, 87, died quietly.Edmund and Laura (Ohnemus) Peters welcomed him into the world on March 15, 1938. He wed Jean V. (Hartzell) Peters at the old St. Mary Catholic Church in Quincy on February 17, 1962. She passed away in 2019 before him.
Lloyd was a lifelong resident of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish in Quincy, Illinois. After graduating from Notre Dame of Quincy in 1956, he started working for Gardner Denver as a toolmaker. Before retiring in 2006 after 45 years of service, he worked diligently and rose through the ranks to become Manager of Manufacturing Engineering.
Throughout their life, Lloyd and Jean kept up a lovely and sizable backyard garden, and they were known to share the fruits, vegetables, and flowers with their loved ones. In addition to building their own home, Lloyd was an exceptionally talented worker who helped his family members with any electrical, plumbing, or woodworking jobs that arose over the years. He loved hunting and fishing, spent a lot of time outdoors, and went to many athletic events and recitals for his kids and grandkids.
In addition to his four grandchildren—Elizabeth (Christopher) Dreste of St. Louis, Missouri; Adam (Catherine) Niemann of Quincy; Eric Niemann of Quincy; and Caroline Niemann of St. Charles, Missouri—and five great-grandchildren—John, Eleanor Nell, and Rose Dreste of St. Louis, Missouri; and Emma and Olivia Niemann of Quincy—Lloyd is survived by his daughters, Tammy (Christopher) Niemann and Cindy Peters, both of Quincy.
He is also survived by his sister, Joyce (Jerry) Sanders of Quincy, and a large number of nieces and nephews.
Lloyd’s parents, brother Kenneth and brother Richard Peters, and sister Loretta Peters all passed away before him, along with his wife Jean.
Visitation hours at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home in Quincy are Friday, August 8, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish in Quincy on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., following funeral services at Duker & Haugh at 9:30 a.m. Calvary Cemetery will be the next place of burial.
