Jerry T. Hagmeier, 86, of Quincy, passed away at Good Samaritan Home on Friday, July 4, 2025, at 3:25 p.m.
Jerry, the son of Melvin and Helen Gabel Hagmeier, was born in Keokuk, Iowa, on April 25, 1939. On December 15, 1962, he wed Barbara Barb Wollbrink in Tioga, Illinois. She makes it through.
Jerry spent 16 years with Gardner-Denver, first in tool design and then in the computer division. Additionally, he spent a number of years at Cummins Engine Company. After that, he taught computer science and CAD for 16 years at John Wood Community College before retiring in 2002. Additionally, he served as a significant mentor to the Quincy Public School System. Jerry, who never sat quiet for long, blew his retirement by joining the JWCC board and working in a variety of roles for 12 years, including manning the scoreboard during basketball games.
Music was more than just something Jerry liked; it was an essential part of his existence. He was a clarinetist and saxophonist. He participated in a school-sponsored dance band during his high school years, performing a number of school dances. In college, he pursued his musical endeavors by joining The Red Blazers, a local dance band. In addition to playing with the Quincy Park Band for a number of years, Jerry was a founding member of the Heidelberg German Band. He also had a strong desire to teach young people about music in order to pass on his enthusiasm and expertise to the next generation.
Jerry was an active member of the Quincy community in his own time. His membership in Trinity United Church of Christ was robust and long-standing. Jerry frequently went to races at Quincy Race Ways and was a member of the Great River Corvette Club. Before joining the Exhausted Roosters, he played with the Quincy Jaycees in his early years. Jerry was a member of Breakfast Kiwanis and volunteered at Blessing Hospital after retiring.
Along with his wife, Barb, survivors include a brother, Rodger Hagmeier of Strongsville, OH; seven nephews, Doug (Donna) Hagmeier, Tim (Kathi) Hagmeier, Randy (Cindy) Roskamp, Mike (Gayle) Roskamp, Doug (Peggy) Austin, Tim Belden, and Jim (Sandy) Hudson; three children, Shawn (Kristi) Hagmeier of St. Peters, MO; Cynthia (Mike) Warnes of Columbia, MO; and three grandchildren, Garrett, Grant, and Gretchen Hagmeier.
