Missouri’s Hannibal. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), over 13,000 women in the United States receive a cervical cancer diagnosis each year, and almost 4,000 of them die from the disease, despite the fact that cervical cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer. Hannibal Regional is giving women in our area the opportunity to take charge of their health by providing free cervical cancer screenings. Early detection through routine screenings can make all the difference.
Free cervical cancer screenings will be offered at Hannibal Regional Medical Group on Thursday, August 14, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.; appointments are necessary. Hannibal Regional’s continuous dedication to leading our community toward improvement is shown in this event.
According to a press release from women’s health nurse practitioner Kendell Farr, WHNP-BC, “when we support preventive health for women, we’re strengthening the health of our entire community.” Women frequently provide care for others, therefore it’s critical that they take care of themselves.
Even if they have had the HPV vaccine, women should start cervical cancer screenings at age 21 and continue until age 65. The vaccine does not protect against all HPV strains that cause cancer, but it does help protect against many of them. Regular cervical screening procedures, such as Pap smears, are therefore crucial.
“This is a great opportunity to take a proactive step in protecting your health if you’re between the ages of 21 and 65 and haven’t had a recent screening,” Farr said. Early alterations can be found by screenings, frequently before cancer has a chance to manifest.
