Quincy Brynlee Cunningham is demonstrating that you don’t need to be an adult to make a mature impact at the age of nine. The Denman Elementary student presented a $500 cheque to Quincy Junior High School officials and staff on August 15, 2025. She had won the gift in a raffle at the Golden K Kiwanis golf tournament on May 25 and knew exactly where to send it.
The winner of the raffle drawing for the tournament was required to select a charity to receive the winnings, and Brynlee’s choice was a heartfelt one. “I was saddened to hear from my mom that some students do not have beds or shower facilities,” Brynlee told MRN. Her mother, Kaity Cunningham, is a junior high school employee and has witnessed personally how the school’s hygiene closet assists students who lack access to basic supplies like deodorant, shampoo, and soap.
Brynlee’s act was hailed as a shining example of charity by Mayor Linda Moore, a member of the Kiwanis, who said, “This is just another example of helping our children know there are ways to help by volunteering, by donating, by working for a good cause.” Brynlee is a shining example of everything that is good in our neighborhood. Quincy Public Schools Board President Shelly Arns, QJHS Principal Brenda Fleer, Brynlee’s happy parents, and staff members were also in attendance for the check presentation. They were all there to honor a young girl whose heart was as large as her smile.
