Adams County, Illinois. NTCA, The Rural Broadband Association, in collaboration with Adams Fiber, recently designated the towns of Golden and Columbus as Smart Rural Communities, showcasing the communities’ innovative use of technology and community development.

Golden and Columbus’ dedication to using cutting-edge fiber broadband solutions to enhance quality of life, encourage innovation, and propel economic growth is honored by this esteemed award.

The statement was made during special village board sessions for both villages. Mayor Rob Winters and the Columbus village board, as well as Mayor Janie Buss and the Golden town board, were formally bestowed with this honor by Adams Fiber representatives.

According to a news release from Lori Miller, marketing coordinator at Adams Fiber, Golden and Columbus are excellent examples of how technology can enable small communities to accomplish large ambitions. The opportunities made possible by Adams Fiber’s connectivity continue to significantly alter daily life in a variety of ways, from healthcare to corporate expansion and education. We are honored to have our offices here and to be traveling alongside Golden and Columbus on this amazing adventure.

Adams Fiber’s consistent investment of over $1.3 million in state-of-the-art fiber infrastructure for the Golden community and over $200,000 for Columbus citizens has enabled both towns to benefit from a number of advancements:

  • Education: Increased access to online learning platforms and educational resources.
  • Business Growth: Seamless connectivity helps local businesses thrive in the fast-paced digital economy.
  • Healthcare: Enhanced telehealth services ensure residents receive quality care from home.

Golden and Columbus have joined NTCA’s Smart Rural Community network, joining other forward-thinking rural communities around the country that are leveraging broadband technology to create a more resilient future. Being included on the official Smart Rural Community website, having access to NTCA outreach programs, and having special marketing tools to showcase the accomplishment are all advantages of this certification.
