Missouri’s Hannibal. The goal of this all-inclusive one-day seminar is to enable senior citizens to live safer, healthier, and more independent lives.
The Gift of Aging free conference, which will be held Tuesday, August 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 3819 Route MM, will highlight financial fraud detection, nutrition, and health. There will be lunch. You can register at https://extension.missouri.edu/events/the-gift-of-aging by Tuesday, August 5.
The event is being held for the second year and is sponsored by the University of Missouri Extension and local partners, including the Northeast Missouri Area Agency on Aging, the Hannibal Regional Hospital, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, the Marion County Health Department, the Hannibal YMCA, and the Hannibal Department of Parks & Recreation.
More than 60 people from eight surrounding areas attended the first annual conference, according to a press release from MU Extension field specialist Carrie Elsen. We heard nothing but good things about the conference. In order to address the challenges that affect adults as they age, this gathering is crucial. There will be additional exhibitors and collaborative partners this year, making it larger.
The next presentations are as follows:
- Foot Health in the Aging Population by Dr. Edward Cline
- Cooking for One by Registered Dietitian Kristy Taylor
- Safeguarding Your Finances: A Guide to Avoiding Bank Fraud by Bank Vice President Bank Bailey Remmels
In addition to the talks, attendees will have the chance to receive free blood pressure and cholesterol checks. The Hannibal Police Department will provide a drug take-back program, and elders can dispose of old paperwork at a shredder station. Additionally, there will be booths dedicated to various neighborhood organizations that assist seniors in volunteering, learning life skills, and enhancing their health as they age.
The University of Missouri Extension’s mission to enhance the health and well-being of all Missourians at every stage of life includes the conference.
