Georgia Gilberta Bailey — Duker & Haugh

On July 19, 2025, Georgia Gilberta Bailey, 97, of Quincy, entered paradise. She was born in Quincy on July 9, 1928. She graduated from Monroe City High School as the valedictorian of her class. On March 28, 1948, she wed Leon A. Bailey, Sr. He passed away on April 30, 1994, before her.

Gilberta owned and controlled the Bailey Transfer Company with her husband; she retired from the company in December 1997. She was a longtime member of the Pilgrim Baptist Church, which was later renamed the Cathedral of Worship. Gilberta was also a previous member of the Eastern Star and a longtime member of the Martha K. Majors Club.

Leon A. (Toni) Bailey, Jr., Janet L. (Raymond) Bailey, Donna K. (Jeffrey) Alexander, Toni K. Bailey, Robert C. (Cheryl) Bailey, John R. (Pamela) Bailey, and Daniel G. (Tisha) Bailey are the children that survive Gilberta.There are twelve great-great grandchildren, sixty-six great-grandchildren, and twenty-eight grandchildren.Along with her Cathedral of Worship family, she also has a large number of nieces, nephews, and acquaintances.

Parents Ethel Mills and Robert Wright, sister Louise Anderson, brother Harrison Wright, niece Beverly S. Meek, and bonus daughter Janet L. Hawkins all passed away before Gilberta.

Bishop Eddie Warren will conduct funeral services in the Cathedral of Worship on Friday, August 1, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Greenmount Cemetery is the place of burial. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home will be open for visits on Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The Cathedral of Worship may be the recipient of memorials. The arrangements are being handled by the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home.
