Quincy As the sports director for Muddy River Sports, Chris Duerr, a 30-year veteran of local television news and former KHQA-TV sports director, has joined Muddy River News.

Sports Writer Shane Hulsey and MRN Sports Editor Matt Schuckman will collaborate with Duerr to deliver the Hannibal-Quincy area’s most thorough local sports coverage.

Duerr compared being invited to jam at Paisley Park, the home and production haven of the late musical genius Prince, to getting to work beside the famous Matt Schuckman (on the daily, no less) in sports reporting.

Exactly four years have passed since Muddy River Sports’ August 2021 launch when Duerr arrives.

“I know how bright the future looks, so I’m as excited today as I was the day we launched Muddy River Sports,” Schuckman said. Chris Duerr’s arrival will significantly expand our audience, increase our output, and enable us to highlight local student-athletes and teams in the most effective manner possible.

Having Chris as a teammate is something I’ve long desired, and this has always been a team effort. His enthusiasm, vigor, and work ethic are infectious, and our capacity to exchange ideas and perspectives will enable us to provide better coverage than before.

In April 2021, Muddy River News debuted on the local news scene. The choice to include Duerr was made feasible, according to MRN Publisher/General Manager J. Robert Gough, by the backing of the company’s ownership group and the sponsors who have stepped forward to assist establish MRN as the region’s premier news outlet.

The hiring of Duerr follows the July appointment of Michelle McCormack, another seasoned news veteran, as executive editor of MRN.

“I am really pleased that we were able to add two outstanding professionals to our team,” Gough remarked. This was made possible by the assistance of my partners, Mike Kinscherff and Jim Rapp, as well as their families. The support we have received from the whole Muddy River region over our first four or more years of operation is the only thing that can equal our dedication to local news and sports coverage.
