The spring field Don Tracy, the former chairman of the Illinois Republican Party, has announced that he will run for the party’s candidacy in the upcoming U.S. Senate election.
In 2010, Tracy, a Springfield lawyer, made an unsuccessful bid for the position of Lieutenant Governor.
According to Tracy, working families in Illinois need someone who will advocate on their behalf in Washington. I’ve dedicated my professional life to advocating for working families and small companies, and I’m prepared to continue that fight in the US Senate.
Due to Democrat Dick Durbin’s retirement, the U.S. Senate seat will become vacant in 2026. After other possible candidates fell out, Tracy, who had been thought to be mulling a gubernatorial bid, chose to run for the Senate.
In 2021, Tracy became the new chair of the state GOP party. Last year, he quit his job.He bemoaned party infighting at the time.
He claimed that some Republicans would prefer to battle other Republicans rather than take on the more difficult task of persuading swing voters to support the Republican Party in order to beat incumbent Democrats.
Tracy is senior counsel with Brown, Hay & Stephens, a law company, and was formerly the Chairman of the Illinois Gaming Board. His parents founded the Mount Sterling-based company DOT Foods. It is the nation’s biggest redistributor of food products. He serves as the company’s general outside counsel.
