The Elvis classic continues to dominate our hearts 64 years later. Welcome to The Daily Dirt’s Vol. 1,359, which consists of three thoughts for today.
1. It s been a long week. A lot of years, a lot of love songs.
The greatest period in pop music history, from the 1960s to the 1990s, is finally represented in our composite top 10 of that genre. The love songs from that era that best complemented our romantic experiences are revealed today.
I had no idea how my final top 10 would come together when I first started. I would be shocked if there were a lot of disagreements over what ended up at number one, even though I’m sure every reader has at least one song they believe should be in the top ten but hasn’t made the cut.
Only idiots rush in, wise folks say, yet I can’t help but fall in love with you. Should I stay?If I couldn’t resist falling in love with you, would that be sinful?
Hold my hand.Take my entire existence as well, because I can’t help but fall in love with you.
Ladies and gentlemen, these are the top ten love songs from the greatest generation of pop music:
1. Elvis Presley, “I Can’t Help” (I Fall in Love With You), 1961: What was the song’s level of popularity? Perry Como, the Lennon Sisters, Doris Day, Patti Page, Al Martino, Keely Smith, Marty Robbins, Bob Dylan, the Stylistics, Shirley Bassey, Engelbert Humperdinck, and several international vocalists recorded The King after its 1961 debut. It’s interesting to note that this is the only love song from the 1960s to reach the final ten.
2. Love Is All Around, Wet Wet Wet (1994): The Troggs did indeed have a big hit with this song in the 1960s.
3. Alone, Heart (1987): “Gothic-themed” is the appropriate way to describe this classic. Only Ann and Nancy Wilson could possibly perform this song, in my opinion. With the exception of Ann’s Neanderthal-like shriek, Nancy’s ubiquitous guitar completely steals the film.
4. Eric Carmen’s Hungry Eyes (1987): Although he passed away in 2024, Eric Carmen left behind some amazing songs, including this tune.
5. Milli Vanilli’s 1989 song “Blame it on the Rain” has gained new life after appearing in the Netflix movie Monster: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.
6. Your Song, Elton John (1971): This may be Elton’s best song, as it was his first worldwide smash. What do you think?7. Eric Clapton’s Wonderful Tonight (1978):Wonderful Tonight, according to Clapton, is about quietly appreciating a loved one’s beauty rather than making extravagant romantic gestures. It’s a momentary, straightforward display of love. And he did a fantastic job of expressing those emotions.
8. You Have My Undying Love, Houston, Whitney (1992):What was the quality of this song? In 34 different nations, it was ranked number one.
9. Sophie B. Hawkins, As I Lay Me Down (1994):Few people are aware that Hawkins’ father was honored in this song.
10. Janet Jackson (1993): This song, which was originally thought to be a throwaway one for Jackson, ended up being a huge smash.
If I had to do it over again: Of course, there are a lot of love songs that could have been included but weren’t from each of the decades we’ve looked at this week. I spent every day and night until at least 4 a.m. compiling those top 10 songs from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. What is the one song from this era that I regret most not fitting in? Stryper (1986), a Christian hair band that is now on tour again, had great commercial success in the mid-to-late 1980s with their song “Calling On You.” All I can do now is apologize to the band’s boys and beg you to watch the video, which has received over 4 million views as of the last time I looked.
2. Did you know (Part 443)
- That Tina Turner was the one who taught Mick Jagger how to dance when she toured with Rolling Stones in the 1960s.
- That popular Motown artists like the Supremes and the Marvellettes were required to attend a charm school to learn proper etiquette and posture .
- That Sonny and Cher s original stage name was Caesar and Cleo . Wow, glad they went with Plan B.
- That Carly Simon wrote her hit song Anticipation while waiting for Cat Stevens to come over to her apartment for a date.
- That the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was none other than the queen of soul, Aretha Franklin.
