Kurkjian’s note regarding Pete Rose is even more intriguing. Welcome to The Daily Dirt’s Vol. 1,326: Three Thoughts for Today.

1. For decades, one of my favorite people associated with MLB has not been a player or manager.

Longtime writer and TV pundit Tim Kurkjian has been known for his high-pitched laugh, sense of humor, and knack for spotting the most odd statements, anecdotes, and observations related to the national pastime.

The latest Four-by-Four team he assembled, which was made up of current and former Major League Baseball players with four letters in both their first and surname names, is one of my favorite Kurkjian-isms. Kurkjian’s conclusions:

Catcher: Tony Pena, the player with the most games (1,950) caught without catching a no-hitter in history.

First baseman: Norm Cash, who throughout his lengthy career never had a walk-off RBI and drove in over 1,000 runs.

Jeff Kent is second baseman.Kurkjian believes he should be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Bill Hall, shortstop.During a spectacular 2006 season, he once hit 35 home runs for the Milwaukee Brewers.

Pete Rose, third baseman: He also mentioned how many former players have expressed their strong opinions on Rose’s potential for the Hall of Fame. Kurkjian talked extensively on the late Frank Robinson and his complete contempt for Rose, claiming that she violated the most sacred of MLB regulations: game betting. Very intriguing.

Outfield: Babe Ruth: According to Kurkjian, the Babe is the team’s captain. There are no disagreements there.

Juan Soto is in outfield.

Fred Lynn is outfield.

Adam Dunn is the DH.

Vida Blue is the pitcher. When Kurkjian described how Charlie Finley, the previous owner of the Oakland Athletics, wanted Blue to alter his first name to True for marketing purposes, I burst out laughing. How much better of a name is there than Vida Blue, by the way? Blue said no way. Kurkjian said, attempting to contain his laughter.
