When I can bring up Eb and Arnold the Pig from Green Acres, it’s always a good day. Welcome to The Daily Dirt’s Vol. 1,361: Three Thoughts for Today.

1. Boomers, do you remember?

We were in the middle of the notorious Summer of Love in 1967. I say “infamous” for a reason: first, that particular recall evokes memories of the music of the time, in addition to the emphasis on love, peace, and flower power. Along with the rise of the counterculture and the hippie lifestyle, there were also violent protests from coast to coast that were linked to the political and racial upheaval surrounding the United States’ increasing involvement in Vietnam.

Even now, everything that contributed to that Summer of Love is seen as a phenomena of some kind, a bizarre fusion of ideas and ways of living. There was never a greater generational divide.

Furthermore, that summer will also be remembered for the coining of the term “groovy.” Even though such phrase has been used in jazz slang from the 1930s and 1940s, it gained popularity during the Summer of Love someplace.

Let’s reflect on some of the positive things that the Summer of Love brought us and see if any of them bring back memories. We’ll save the negative aspects of the Summer of Love for another time:
