We go through our comment section’s mayhem each month to identify the greatest finds and the most embarrassing failures. Because kind words deserve a tidy home, the winner receives a $100 Happy Maids gift certificate. And the worst part? To put it simply, shame. Disgrace. Disgrace.
The voice of reason, who gently reminded the audience that a Letter to the Editor is just that—a letter—is this month’s best comment. It’s a one person’s perspective, not a secret coded agenda or a manifesto of Muddy River News beliefs. Easy. Correct. Invigorating. We hope more people receive it. In the Letter to the Editor entry titled “Miller’s conservative policies have very little to do with the district she represents,” Jeff Oenning left a comment.
For everyone who is whining about something, Jeff wrote. The words “letter to the editor” are very evident. Perhaps everyone of you should send a letter to the editor, and it will be posted for discussion.
The idea behind a letter to the editor is that readers submit letters with their thoughts—not the publication that publishes them.
Regards, Jeff.
And the worst comment? That honor goes to the dramatic announcement made by a subscriber who canceled because of content they didn’t agree with. We understand that news isn’t always cozy. It’s still news, though, whether it’s a letter, an article on Governor Pritzker, or sensitive court coverage. It is our responsibility to report the truth, not to slant it to your preferences. Not fond of it? Continue scrolling. Because although your viewpoint is important, it’s not the only one.
“I’ve already flushed WGEM & WTAD, your next,” wrote Roger Peters.
But where are you going to get your news, Roger?
Additionally, you’re not your own. Disgrace. Disgrace.
Quincy, stay elegant until next month. Or at the very least, make it engaging.
