“Chad the Cougar and the Forest of Feelings” to release on Aug. 6

Quincy Chad the Cougar and the Forest of Feelings, Chaddock’s first children’s book, will be available on August 6. This story, which was written and drawn by Chaddock staff, combines entertaining and captivating storytelling with actual Chaddock techniques to help kids better comprehend and control strong emotions.

Chad the Cougar travels through the Forest of Feelings in the novel. Chad encounters Baxter Badger, who is furious but unsure of the cause. Chad guides Baxter through those emotions with the assistance of their sage companion Olivia Owl, and he demonstrates to young readers how to do the same.

Chaddock’s Developmental Trauma and Attachment Program (DTAP) served as the inspiration for the book. Though they are useful tools for any child, the techniques modeled in the novel are based on actual, research-based methods that Chaddock uses to treat kids who have suffered from trauma and attachment disorders.

Children who read the book are better able to identify and label their emotions, learn how to deal with strong emotions, and develop empathy and support from their peers.

Local author Ron Kinscherf worked with Chaddock workers to make the project a reality. Sarah Goodapple, Chaddock’s family coach, painted the drawings by hand.

On Wednesday, August 6, Chaddock will host a special launch event for local educators to commemorate the publication of this book.

  • Morning Session: 9 to 11:30 a.m., with a program at 10 a.m.
  • Afternoon Session: 1 to 3:30 p.m., with a program at 2 p.m.

Chaddock School, located at 205 S. 24th St., will host both sessions.

A complimentary copy of the book will be given to the first 100 instructors who show up at this event. They will also hear from our staff members who worked on this project and discover more about the other services Chaddock provides to help schools all year long.

Beginning on August 6, Chad the Cougar and the Forest of Feelings will be sold on Amazon and other online marketplaces.
