Missouri’s Hannibal. The American Public service Association (APPA) has given the Hannibal Board of Public Works (HBPW) a national award for their assistance in Springfield, Missouri’s attempts to restore electric service.
Five lineman were dispatched by the Hannibal Board of Public Works on April 29 to help City Utilities of Springfield, whose service area experienced extensive outages due to a severe thunderstorm with gusts over 90 mph.
Almost 50,000 consumers were without power after the storm. For a solid week, HBPW lineman worked nonstop until the electricity was properly restored to every client.
“We are extremely proud of this award and the fact that our employees are highly regarded and sought after by communities in need because of their professionalism and work ethic,” stated Darrin Gordon, general manager for the Hannibal Board of Public Works, in a press release. Being a member of the APPA national mutual aid group and the Missouri mutual aid group is important to us as a utility because we know that if we ever need help, they will be there to help.
In order to coordinate with utilities and authorities during major power outages, the Hannibal Board of Public Works is a member of the American Public Power Association’s Mutual Aid Network.
