Missouri’s Hannibal. On Thursday, September 11, at noon, the Hannibal Arts Council will host its 12th annual art history luncheon at the Mark Twain Museum & Gallery, located at 120 N. Main St. This unique event encourages participants to learn, engage, and be inspired by the world of art while savoring a delectable themed meal, all while fitting neatly into a business lunch hour.

The renowned American painter and illustrator Norman Rockwell (1894–78), whose iconic images captured the essence of daily life for generations, will be the focus of this year’s luncheon. A dynamic, biographical program examining Rockwell’s life, career, and lasting influence will be presented by Hannibal artist Pat Kerns. The event’s appropriate setting is the Mark Twain Museum & Gallery, which houses Rockwell’s original illustrations for special 1935 editions of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

The Hannibal Arts Council program committee has chosen an Americana picnic food to go with the event’s theme, and guests will savor it before the presentation. In addition to beverages, the luncheon will offer New York deli chicken salad, Kipferl bread rolls, Four Seasons chopped salad, and blueberry hand pies.

The general public can purchase tickets for $25, while Hannibal Arts Council members can purchase them for $20. Reservations must be made in advance by Tuesday, September 9 due to limited seating. Tickets can be bought online at hannibalartscouncil.eventbrite.com, over the phone at 573-221-6545, or in person Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. at the Hannibal Arts Council, located at 105 S. Main St.
