Quincy A Quincy man was sentenced in Adams County Circuit Court on Monday to serve a minimum of 21 years in prison.
Quincy resident Scott Williams, 39, received a sentence of 12.5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the crime of criminal sexual assault, which is equivalent to a total of 25 years. Upon his release, Williams will be required to serve three years of mandatory supervised release in addition to serving the sentence at an 85% truth-in-sentence rate.
Laura Keck of the Adams County State’s Attorney Office prosecuted the case, and Adams County Circuit Judge Tad Brenner imposed the punishment.
On June 4, Williams entered a guilty plea to the two offenses; one more count was dropped at that time. The same person, who was a minor at the time, was accused of committing all three offenses between March 2021 and August 2022.
Keck and the Quincy Police Department were commended by State’s Attorney Todd Eyler for their unwavering efforts in obtaining this sentencing.
Criminal sexual assault cases are crucial because, according to a news release from Eyler, obtaining a conviction and a prison sentence ensures that the community is shielded from these predators while they are incarcerated, in addition to providing justice for the victim by allowing the healing process to continue.
Eyler claimed that by helping the prosecution, the victim displayed courage, bravery, and strength.
“The community owes this victim a great debt for helping to prevent the lives of others from being so negatively impacted,” Eyler said, adding that the victim came forward to stop the horrors that she had witnessed from being committed against others. Our community cannot overlook the detrimental effects of criminal sexual assault, particularly when it comes to vulnerable children, and we must keep up the daily battle against it.
In these situations, victims who take a stand, defend themselves, and do everything in their power to keep a defendant from ever having another opportunity to commit their crimes against someone else are heroes.
