Victim’s dashcam footage helps cops solve near-fatal expressway shooting

After prosecutors claimed that a victim’s dashcam served as a silent witness and assisted authorities in solving a near-fatal road rage shooting on the Kennedy Expressway last month, a 22-year-old Wonder Lake man was placed under arrest.

On July 12, Illinois State Police troopers discovered a Subaru driver who had been shot in the head after being summoned to the incoming lanes close to East River Road. According to authorities, the victim’s vehicle swerved into a median after the gunfire and was hit by a truck. In some way, the victim lived.

Prosecutors claim that a dashcam installed in the victim’s vehicle captured everything. The video purportedly showed Aldo Ruiz’s Honda driving away from the scene. Prosecutors said that mobile phone data linked Ruiz to the gunshot scene and the movements of his vehicle, and license plate readers traced the vehicle in the neighborhood.

According to reports, investigators discovered shell shells that matched those recovered from the freeway in Ruiz’s bedroom. When Ruiz found out he was wanted, he gave up. Ruiz was placed under arrest on a charge of attempted murder by Judge Ankur Srivastava, who stated that he was unable to restrain his urges over a minor driving issue.
