In the vicinity of Quincy, David Dedert and his father, Dean, cultivate maize, soybeans, wheat, cattle, and sheep. As part of their business, they manage Twin Mill Farm, a 90-acre family farm that has been owned by the Mittelbergs for more than a century. Raising beef cattle, hogs, and now only row crops are some of the changes the farm has experienced over the years. As they move the property toward regenerative management with no-till and cover crops, the Dederts collaborate with farm manager Mike Rice and landowner Aleen Mittelberg.
On Saturday, September 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., David Dedert and Rice will give a presentation at Twin Mill Farm, located at 6331 Ellington Road, regarding their use of regenerative approaches. You can talk about their use of soil health testing and observe their cover crops in no-till fields.
Attendees can RSVP by phoning PFI at 515-232-5661 or by going to the event page at https://practicalfarmers.org/events/field-days/2025-field-days/under-the-canopy.
