Quincy This Labor Day, the Quincy Police Department is one of more than 200 law enforcement organizations in Illinois who are taking part in the statewide Click It or Ticket, Drive High Get a DUI, and Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaigns. Officers will be out in force from August 15 until the wee hours of September 2, with the goal of preventing drunk driving, upholding seat belt regulations, and minimizing other risky driving practices.
In a news release, Sgt. Witt of the QPD stated that driving while impaired by alcohol, cannabis, or any other narcotic is not only dangerous but also against the law. Since protecting Quincy’s residents is our first priority, we will be patrolling with zero tolerance for drunk driving.
As part of the Click It or Ticket campaign, officers will also enforce seat belt rules. The best defense against severe injury or death in an accident is to buckle up. Every trip, all passengers, whether in the front or rear seat, should be securely fastened.
Officers will be alert for drivers under the influence of cannabis and other narcotics in addition to alcohol. A nationwide education and enforcement campaign to save lives includes messages like Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Drive High Get a DUI.
Sgt. Witt stated, “We want our community to enjoy the holiday weekend in a responsible and safe manner.” Make a plan, designate a driver, and avoid driving when intoxicated. These choices save lives.
The Illinois Department of Transportation, which uses federal highway safety dollars to manage the Click It or Ticket and Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over programs, is supporting this local effort as part of a broader statewide campaign. IDOT’s It’s Not a Game marketing campaign, which emphasizes the fatal effects of driving while intoxicated and runs on radio, television, and digital channels, supports the project.
