Thursday, August 14, 2025: Daily Dirt
All things considered, Bryan Adams may be the most underappreciated name on today’s list. Welcome to The Daily Dirt’s Vol. 1,373: Three Thoughts for Today.
1. The countdown marches on.
We are examining the 30 most worthy bands and individuals who ought to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but have been excluded for some reason.
We look at our choices for Nos. 20 through 11 today:
20. Peter Frampton: Frampton Comes Alive!, a seminal live double album released in 1976, catapulted Frampton to global fame and a remarkable run of singles.
19. Bryan AdamsWhy has he not been selected despite his voice, compositional prowess, career trajectory, hit list, and well-known charitable work? Don’t tell me that it’s because he’s Canadian, either.
18. Mariah Carey: There’s a lot of uncertainty here. Carey appeared to be a lock for such an honor at the beginning of a career.
17. Boston: Arena rock royalty?
16. Warren Zevon: One of the best lyricists in pop music, Zevon passed away far too soon at the age of 56. Werewolves of London is a timeless classic, and his Excitable Boy LP is among the best in the genre.
15. Guess Who: Burton Cummings, the frontman of Guess Who, was one of the greatest lead singers of the rock era.
14. The Carpenters: Soft rock at its best. Karen Carpenter’s voice might never be heard again.
13. Dionne Warwick: I don’t understand how she missed induction despite being nominated multiple times. She has always stood out from most due to her subtle demeanor and ability to interpret those timeless, smooth rock offerings.
12. Sonny and Cher: It’s time to include Cher and Sonny (Bono) together after Cher was officially recognized a year ago. One of the major sounds of the 1960s was Sonny and Cher’s music, which forever altered pop music and the mindset that accompanied it.
11. Phil Collins: Although he was already inducted with Genesis, he should also be honored as a solo artist. Mariah Carey and Collins are in the same class. What’s going on?
Our top ten bands/performers who were left out will be announced tomorrow.
