Jacqueline “Jackie” K. Collins — O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home

Jacqueline On Sunday, August 10, 2025, Jackie K. Collins, 80, of Payson, Illinois, died at her home.

Harry and Iola (Clark) Pleasant welcomed Jackie into the world on September 10, 1944, in Hannibal, Missouri. On May 1, 1965, she married Richard Collins at Quincy, Illinois’ Madison Park Christian Church.

Her four grandchildren, Zachary, Austin, Kelcie, and Grant Spilker; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Pleasant; three children, Todd Collins (Julie) of Monticello, MO; Shawn Collins of Truro, IA; and Dawnell Spilker (Ted) of Pensacola, FL; and numerous cherished nieces and nephews are among the other survivors.

Jackie’s parents, husband, and brother, Harry Dean Pleasant, all passed away before her.

Jackie attended Pettibone Grade School, Central Grade School, and Hannibal Jr. High for her final education. She worked as a seamstress at 8th Ave Villager, International Shoe Company, Bobby Brooks, Motorola, and lastly as a devoted custodian at Liberty School District, where she retired. Her career path was varied and rewarding.

Jackie’s hobbies outside of work were as diverse as they were fervent. She was a passionate gardener who found happiness and comfort in nature. She had a deep passion for bowling and enthusiastically competed with her team, Action Auto Parts, at the Tangerine Bowling Alley in Quincy, Illinois. Jackie’s proficiency and commitment to the game were recognized by her certification as a life member of the National 600 Bowling Club. Her paintings, in which she expertly used acrylics to create realistic scenes, were a brilliant example of her artistic abilities. Jackie’s inventiveness also showed in her handicraft, where she created lovely wreaths and painted decorations, particularly around Christmas. Her exquisite sewing abilities were evident in each outfit she painstakingly created for her husband.

Jackie’s affection for animals, especially her cats, was evidence of her gentle and caring nature. She was an avid reader who enjoyed western novels and religious periodicals, frequently losing herself in the tales they told. Jackie was known for her culinary skills; her watergate salad, potato salad, and fried chicken were all favorites among her family and friends. Her vast cookbook library was a veritable gold mine of dishes and memories.

Jackie also loved to travel, and her life was enhanced by the excitement and novel experiences she had on her unforgettable travels to Branson, Yellowstone, Nebraska, and Memphis. Her passion for purple was more than just a taste; it was a reflection of her lively nature.

Jackie will always be cherished for her feisty personality, her steadfast devotion to her loved ones, and the innumerable lives she impacted with her generosity and compassion.

The O Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy, Illinois will have a visitation for Jacqueline’s life celebration on Monday, August 18, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 10:00 am, there will be a funeral service at the O Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy. The celebrant will be Rev. Sheri Renner. Payson New Cemetery in Payson, Illinois, will be the last resting place. Because purple was Jackie’s favorite color, attendees are encouraged to wear it to the visitation and/or funeral service.
