Quincy Later this year, at the biggest nursing conference in the US, a group of nurses from Blessing Hospital will give a live presentation of their quality improvement project, which has been published nationwide.

The August 2025 issue of the national bimonthly clinical practice journal Critical Care Nurse featured an initiative by Laura Weigand, BSN, RN, CCRN, TNS; Tracy Viers, APRN, AC-AGCNS; and Eydie Tipton, DNP, RN, CCRN, CNML, EBP-C titled, Integration of Rapid Response Teams and Early Warning Systems to Reduce Cardiac Arrests and ICU Re-Admissions.

Additionally, an abstract of the Blessing nurses’ effort was submitted and chosen for a live podium presentation at the 2025 American Nurses Credentialing Center National Magnet Conference, which will take place from October 8–10 in Atlanta, Georgia. The event, which highlights innovation and excellence in nursing practice, will draw more than 14,000 nurses from around the globe.

The nurses’ initiative demonstrates how Blessing Hospital has reduced the need for patients to be readmitted to the Intensive Care Unit within 24 and 72 hours by almost 34% and 33%, respectively, and reduced the rate of cardiac arrests across the hospital by almost 17% by utilizing early warning technology that tracks hospitalized patients’ health in real time in conjunction with the expertise of a specialized nursing team known as the High-Acuity Response Team (HART). A abrupt and unanticipated loss of breathing, consciousness, and heart function is known as cardiac arrest.

In a news statement, Dr. Tipton, speaking on behalf of the nursing staff, stated, “This is a success story in innovation, teamwork, and patient-centered care.” It demonstrates how making investments in proactive care, technology, and nursing leadership can benefit everyone. It demonstrates unequivocally how Blessing Hospital is setting the standard for better healthcare.
