WIU SHRM student chapter receives Superior Merit award

Published On:

MACOMB, Illinois. The Western Illinois University SHRM student chapter received a 2024–2025 Superior Merit award designation from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the recognized authority on all things work, employees, and the workplace, for offering its student members exceptional opportunities for growth and development.

The SHRM Student Chapter Merit Award program recognizes exceptional projects and activities and promotes the growth of more successful student chapters. Operation, chapter programming, member professional development, support of the human resource profession, and SHRM participation are the criteria used to identify chapters.

The president of the SHRM student chapter, SHRM president and CEO Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., stated in a press release that as the members of our student chapters represent the future of HR leadership, it is critical to acknowledge the critical role they play in SHRM’s continued success. The commitment and accomplishments of WIU SHRM show that the future of the profession is in skilled and motivated hands. As we adjust to the changing dynamics of the workplace, I applaud their achievements and their capacity to spur creative programming, professional growth, and an increasing interest in human resources.

Depending on how many activities they finish during the merit award cycle, SHRM student chapters can receive an award. The latest one took place between May 1, 2024, and April 30, 2025.

This honor is the result of the numerous initiatives that WIU’s SHRM student chapter has been involved in throughout the past academic year. Workshops were attended, student members participated in value-added HR internships, and professionals were invited to gatherings to discuss the HR field.

SHRM is a member-driven organization that works to improve workplaces so that businesses and people can prosper together. The leading expert, researcher, advocate, and thought leader on topics and innovations affecting today’s changing workplaces, SHRM is the go-to source for everything related to work. Over 362 million workers and their families are impacted by SHRM, which has almost 340,000 members in 180 countries.
