Man used teen app to lure underage girls across Chicagoland: prosecutors

A 27-year-old Homewood man is facing charges for allegedly using a teen-focused social app to meet and sexually abuse underage girls across Chicagoland, according to police reports and court filings.

According to Chicago police, officers were called to the Logan Square home of a woman who reported her 15-year-old daughter missing for the first time on February 5, 2024. While police were taking the report, they heard a vehicle door slam outside and saw the teen and Porras walking toward the residence, a CPD report said. Officers said Porras gave multiple false birth years before admitting he was 25 years old.

The girl told officers she had met Porras on Wizz, a social media app marketed to teenagers, and had been talking for several weeks before meeting in person two days earlier.

On the day she went missing, the girl said, she went for a walk with Porras around 1 a.m. They ended up having sex in the bed of his pickup truck, which was parked across the street from her home, according to the report. She told police she thought Porras was 16 years old.

Her mother took her to Lurie Children’s Hospital for treatment. Although police detained Porras at the scene, prosecutors initially declined to file charges pending DNA testing. Lab results from the Illinois State Police Crime Lab later linked him to the case, and charges have now been filed.

At his latest detention hearing, Judge Antara Rivera ordered Porras held in custody, citing a “clear and present danger” to the community. Rivera said Porras “lured young girls from multiple counties in Illinois” using “deceptive practice.”

This is at least the fourth case filed against Porras involving allegations of sexually abusing underage girls. Porras has been in the Cook County jail since Judge Luciano Panici Jr. detained him earlier this year in a separate case involving a 13-year-old girl in Calumet City.

Prosecutors said the girl met Porras through Wizz shortly after graduating from 8th grade. His profile allegedly said he was 15. In private text messages, he claimed to be 19; the girl said she was 14, though she was actually 13, prosecutors said.

On June 16, 2024, the girl told police she gave Porras the address to her grandmother’s home, where she was staying alone in a basement unit. Once he snuck inside, Porras allegedly had sex with the girl about five times in a single night. Prosecutors said the girl’s grandmother spotted Porras as he was being escorted out of the home. He and the girl claimed they were classmates.

Weeks after that encounter, police in north suburban Round Lake Park arrested Porras in yet another case involving a 14-year-old girl. Officers executed a search warrant on his phone and discovered messages between him and the Calumet City victim, prosecutors said. The discovery allowed Calumet City police to connect Porras to the girl in their town.

Porras’ CPD arrest report said he also had a pending warrant in Will County for criminal sexual abuse, but the document did not provide any details about those allegations.
