Missouri’s Hannibal. On June 11, the 16th annual Shoeless Joe’s Celebrity Golf Classic, which is officially sponsored by Raymond James Financial, was held by the Hannibal Regional Foundation. With all proceeds going directly to the cause, this year’s event raised over $100,000 to support cancer care services and resources in northeast Missouri.
Nearly $1.2 million has been raised for local healthcare through the golf classic.
In order to bring celebrities from other sports and areas of Missouri to Hannibal to play golf with foundation supporters and businesses, the foundation has teamed with the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame since its founding in 2010. Celebrities from the past and present have included MLB players Tom Henke, Brian McRae, and Josh Kinney; former NFL players Art Still, Tony Reed, Mel Grey, and Eddie Moss; and numerous other collegiate and professional athletes.
“It is humbling to see the continued support and success of our golf classic,” stated Wendy Harrington, the foundation’s president and CEO, in a press statement. We are extremely fortunate to have kind and helpful businesses and funders, a solid partnership with the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, and a fantastic team of volunteers who assist make this tournament a huge success each year. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the success of this event on behalf of the foundation. This year’s support of the event directly benefits cancer patients across the region, and all those engaged should be extremely pleased of the efforts we are doing to improve and broaden cancer services in our area.
The expansion of cardiology services in Hannibal to include open heart surgery, the development and subsequent growth of the Healthy Way Fitness Trail on the medical campus, the Hannibal Regional Hospital’s inpatient rehab unit, the renovation and expansion of the hospital’s women’s care unit, and the renovation of the cardiac rehab unit are among the projects and services made possible by the money raised by this event.
“Our foundation is a true partner that works to maximize our ability to meet the constantly changing healthcare needs of our community,” stated Todd Ahrens, president and CEO of Hannibal Regional. Better health at home is the result of every dollar they generate staying in the community.
